Book of poems
My bachelor project mainly consisted of type design. As an addition I applied Yade in a poetry book with my own poems and created illustrations. The title translates to “The mirrors which my shadow throws” The book is structured chronologically and divided into three chapters. For each chapter, I created a charcoal illustration that transitioned into abstraction. Due to the partly strong grain and hard contrasts as well as the uncleanliness, the drawings are reminiscent of older photographs or scans in terms of their emotional effect and this fits in with the fact that the poems are basically emotional memories. The layout is kept simple; each poem has a double page spread, which invites you to take your time. The poems are set in Yade Regular; headings, if present, are set and sized in Yade Semibold and the date under each poem is in Yade Italic. The poems and the page numbers correspond to a deep black, while the date under each poem is eclipsed by 75% black. As the only decorative element and counterweight both page numbers are on the left side.
