Illustration // Werewolf cardgame
For private purposes I have redesigned the popular card game Werewolf. The commission came from a friend who gave me a lot of freedom in the design. I wanted to bring more diversity to the figure of the wolf in order to breathe new life into these well-known roles. I switched some of the genders in the “good” cards from how they are usually portrayed. Furthermore, I have separated the “good” and the “evil” roles by colour. The reverse side combines both colour systems. The typeface is Eskapade Fraktur, which in this context is reminiscent of a written ancient tale in its strokes and fits the papercut-like illustrations; however, it is also simpler and smoother than other Fraktur typefaces, making it look modern and easy to read. In the case of the wolf cards, free-flying fur hairs serve as decorative lines, while the “good” characters are adorned by tendrils of leaves. To ensure durability, I decided to have the cards printed on 3mm forex with protective varnish. Each set is stored in a black velvet pouch to match the ancient fairy tale theme. A game manual is also included.
